FireSmart BC is a provincial program focused on helping communities reduce wildfire risk and build greater resilience. The Education Program provides curriculum-connected resources designed to introduce students to wildfire preparedness and FireSmart principles.

My work focused on the production and layout development of educational materials across multiple grade levels, including lesson guides, activity sheets, worksheets, and supporting resources.

I adapted the established layouts to accommodate varying content structures while maintaining consistency in typography, hierarchy, spacing, and visual elements throughout the program.

Working from the initial design direction established by a senior designer, I extended the visual system across the remaining program materials. My responsibilities included building page layouts, adapting the established design to different types of educational content, organizing text and visual elements, and preparing consistent, production-ready files.

Throughout the process, I focused on maintaining the established visual language while creating clear information hierarchies and ensuring consistency across lessons, activity sheets, worksheets, and supporting resources.

Challenge

The program contained a large volume of educational content with varying structures and requirements. The key challenge was adapting the established design system to accommodate different lesson formats, instructional content, and activity sheets while maintaining clarity and consistency across grade levels.

Outcome

The completed Education Program provided a cohesive and consistent set of educational materials across multiple lessons and activity formats.
